In September 2007, R&B star Macy Gray released a rather shocking statement. At the time, the popular singer as well as actress was reported as saying that if she ever stopped producing music, she would like to pursue a career of either a professional poker player or professional pimp. While the world has seen much more peculiar announcements in the past, we believe that Gray was successful in shocking at least some of her fans. Thus far, she released four studio albums, one live album and one compilation album. On our part, we hope that she never stops being a musician so we'd never have to find out what would happen first, pimping or poker playing...

Who could have guessed that Anthrax co-founder and guitarist Scott Ian would turn out to be an ardent poker aficionado? Yet, it is true. Back in August, the prominent musician was reported as saying that he'd love to take part in the 2007 UltimateBet.com Aruba Poker Classic. Then again, who wouldn't... Apart from the exotic resort in Aruba where the competition took place, another major attraction was the tournament's $2.5 million prize pool.

Last July, it was reported that popular Australian singer Shannon Noll was offered to become the new face of the Australian Poker League (APL). However, the singer's agreement to the offer drew some negative reactions by poker opponents. Some poker haters were reported as saying that Noll had to be more considerate of his adolescent fans who looked up to him. Responding to the accusations of being irresponsible towards his teenage followers, the accomplished singer stated hat he considered poker play a great pastime. He also said that he hoped to become a poker pro some day. That's the right attitude... wouldn't you say?

Over the years, western Sudan's Darfur conflict has certainly become a global issue. According to expert estimations, the ongoing war has left as many as 450,000 dead from violence as well as disease. Unfortunately, since 2004, seeking to conceal the level of the inflicted damage from the outer world, the Sudanese government has repeatedly suppressed information by killing witnesses. In an attempt to raise monetary help for Darfur survivors, throughout 2007, world's most prominent celebrities were invited to take part in numerous charitable poker tournaments. Among the aforementioned celebs were Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Tilley, George Clooney and Matt Damon.

Throughout 2007, Anne Heche, the ex-girl friend of popular comedian Ellen DeGeneres, has been involved in a custody battle with her soon-to-be former husband Coleman Laffoon. The estranged couple has mutually accused each other of not being fit to take care of their 5-year-old son Homer. According to a declaration Heche filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court, Lafoon let the boy participate in adult backgammon and poker games he had organized at his home. On his part, Laffoon claimed that Heche neglected the child. Heche's involvement with DeGeneres and their subsequent split have been widely covered by the media, especially in the United States.

When two accomplished Hollywood actors join forces they are very likely to make any project succeed. This is exactly the case with Eric Banna and Drew Barrymore's new romantic drama, 'Lucky You.' The couple portrays a hotshot poker player and a naive young singer respectively. Both characters have their own personal issues they must resolve before they can advance with their romance. He strives to participate in the World Series of Poker and she dreams to make it as a singer. Surprisingly enough, 'Lucky You' was slaughtered by the critics. On our part, we do not believe it to be completely justified. Although the evolving love affair between the two protagonists is not entirely convincing, it's an awesome poker flick.

Naturally, when it comes to strip poker only the sexiest women on the planet are brought up. According to a survey conducted by online poker room Absolute Poker last July, when asked "which celebrity they would most like to compete against in a strip poker game," 37% of the poker players who took part in the survey brought up buxom Hollywood actress Carmen Electra and Absolute Poker's spokeswoman Serinda Swan. And, we believe it's no wonder. Both women look absolutely perfect. It seems that inner beauty is still not as popular among men as outer gorgeousness. Or, is it?

Hugh Hefner, the owner of the legendary Playboy Mansion, is known for throwing the most exciting parties on the block. Just imagine, free alcohol, great music and the most gorgeous women in the world... Sounds dreamy, right? In April, 2007, Hefner hosted The Second Annual Celebrity Poker Tournament and Casino Night. The event was co-sponsored by Card Player, an industry-leading poker publication. All the profits were later allocated to the Urban Health Institute, a charitable organization providing medical care to U.S. areas struck by natural disasters. Among the celebs invited to Hefner's home were Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth as well as Oliver Hudson.
