Playing Omaha Poker
Omaha Poker is a thrilling game derived from the mega-popular game of Texas Holdem and if you know the basics of Texas Hold'em, you can understand this game in no time.
Omaha Poker Varieties
There are actually many varieties of Omaha that are currently enjoyed. Sites are constantly changing and even adding new version of the game and it's a safe bet that this number will only increase. Thus far the all-time favourite Omaha games include: Limit, Pot Limit, Limit Hilo, Pot Limit Omaha hi/lo among many other versions.
How to Play Omaha Poker
In Omaha, each player is dealt 4 cards known as ‘hole cards.' These belong only to the particular player and are not shared by the other challengers. After all the players have all been dealt their hole cards, the dealer then deals 5 community cards face-up on the table.
The object of the game is to build the strongest 5 card you can. To do this you use 3 of the 5 community cards in combination with 2 of you hole cards to build the best five card Poker hand. In the Omaha Poker, a "button" indicates which player is the designated dealer for the current round. As you can tell, the game is extremely similar to Texas Holdem, with the main difference being how your final hand is created.
Omaha Starting Hands
An Omaha Poker game begins when the player to the immediate clockwise position of the button posts what's referred to as the "small blind." The player immediately clockwise of the small blind then posts the "big blind." Afterwards, each participant receives his/her 4 hole cards. The betting action continues around the table, beginning with the player to the immediate clockwise position of the big blind.
The "flop" - the first 3 community cards available to the players - is then dealt face-up on the table. The flop play starts with the player immediately clockwise to the button betting. When the flop round betting action is completed, the "turn" (the 4th community card) is dealt facing up. Once the ‘turn' round betting has been completed, the "river" (the 5th and final community card) is dealt, you guessed it, also face-up, and again the wagering starts with the player sitting clockwise to the button.
When there is more than a single player remaining when the final betting round has been completed, the player with the best 5-card Omaha Poker hand is awarded the pot.
