Charity event announced at PokerStars Caribbean Adventure
The poker world is eagerly awaiting the start of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure poker tournament that will take place in January, which is certain to be one of the most popular tournaments of the year. Now it has been announced that the event will also play host to a charity tournament to raise money for the AIDS research group amFAR.
The Caribbean Adventure will be running from January 4 to 14 at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. But with all the millions of dollars being won and lost, it is great that the organizers have managed to introduce a charity event. It will be a no-limit hold’em tournament with a buy-in of $5,250, and half of the prize pool will be dedicated to charity with PokerStars matching the figure.
There will be a host of big-name players and celebrities joining in, with Joe Cada, Mats Sundin, and ex-tennis ace Boris Becker already signed up. Players are also being encouraged to donate a proportion of any winnings they get to the charity.
Satellites for the charity poker tournament are now being hosted at PokerStars, and are going on until December 13. They come with a $5.50 buy-in, and will provide winners with the buy-in for the event, their airfare, and their accommodation costs. The event will be held on January 8.
