Aussie Millions has just started up again in Australia and has already seen its first major winner. The famous poker tournament started on January 14 and has attracted some of the best poker players in the world, including Phil Ivey and Joe Hachem. It is held at Crown Casino in Melbourne, and will go on for two weeks.

The opening event was a $1,100 AUD buy-in No Limit Hold'Em tournament. 1,143 participants took part in the event, making it the biggest poker tournament in the history of Australia. With such a start to the tournament we'll be sure to see some more exciting action as the rest of the tournament unfolds.

The winner of the opening tournament was Matthew Ephraums, who got to take home an impressive $200,025 AUD for his efforts. He triumphed after fending off the challenge posed by Brendan Edmonds in heads-up play, eventually proving that he had what it takes to be crowned champion.

In total, 193 of the players managed to get through to the second day of the tournament. But it didn't take long to whittle them down to the final table. Ephraums was obviously delighted with his win, but there were also big wins for Brendan Edmonds who took home $142,875 AUD, and third-placed  Brent Thomas who won $97,155 AUD.
