Poker Movie - Goodfellas
Though this film isn’t typically known as one of the great poker movies, it is a spectacular movie overall that happens to have a couple of memorable clips showing the bad guys at a poker table. Martin Scorsese directed this film and took the story from the best selling book called Wiseguy. It depicts the true life adventures of Henry Hill, a half-Irish, half Sicilian boy growing up in Brooklyn who idolized the ways of the “Wise Guys” or the mafia as we know them.
The movie hosts some huge big screen actors like Robert DeNiro (Jimmy), Joe Pesci (Tommy), Paul Sorvino (Paulie Cicero) and Ray Liotta (Henry Hill), and is based on a true story about the Mafia. Aside from winning many awards and accolades, it is recognized as one of the most factual movies made about the Mob to this day.
Henry always wanted to be a gangster and as he grew up, he started working different jobs for the local crime boss Paulie. He seemed to be doing okay, and soon he got hooked up with a crew that included Tommy and Jimmy. Not long after, the gang was pulling some pretty big heists. So what makes it one of the best poker movies? See below.
Potential Poker Cheat Gets Shot
The gang is making big money with their scams and one night they are at a safe house having a game of poker when the bartender seems to be serving drinks a little to slow for Tommy’s liking. Being the crazy guy he was, he starts shooting at the floor to make this bartender jump and unfortunately shoots him in the foot.
The bartender gets medical attention and in a later scene you see him with a cast on for the next week’s regular poker game. A valuable lesson learned for sure.
This time around the bartender has a couple of crude words for Tommy and because his friends at the table chastise him about this he responds by shooting the poor kid three times in the chest.
Perhaps its not a full fledged poker movie, and far from being one of best poker movies but this is a scene you can never forget in one of the top movies of all time.
