Daub- To mark cards with a fluid (most frequently with ink). With the intention of cheating.


Dead- A reference to a totally hopeless hand. Usually, is part of the following phrase: "Draw dead," meaning draw to a worthless hand.


Dead man's hand- Two pair, Aces and eights. Some claim that "Wild Bill" Hickok had this hand when he was murdered in the Mann-Lewis Saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota, in 1876.


Dead money- Money invested in the pot by a player who eventually folded. Or, a tournament player who is very unlikely to win.


Deck- The 52 playing cards. The deck consists of four suits: Spades, Clubs, Hearts and Diamonds. There are 13 cards in each suit. The cards are ranked as follows: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace.


Deuces Wild- A version of poker in which the deuces are wild. Meaning, that the deuces can take the attributes of any other card. The wild card is expected to help a player form a more favorable hand.


Direction- In Hi/Lo games, which part of the pot, the high half or the low half, a player competes for.


Discard- To throw cards from one's hand (typically in Draw games). Usually done, in order to replace these cards with new ones.

 

Dolly Pardon- 9-5 in the pocket.


Donkey- A very week player.


Doped cards- Marked cards (typically with the purpose of deceiving opponents).


Doyle Brunson- 10-2 in the pocket. A hand that nabbed prominent poker pro Doyle Brunson the 'Champion' title both at the 1976 WSOP and the 1977 WSOP.


Double dealing- Cheating. Double dealing takes place when a dealer deals himself or his accomplice two cards instead of one for the purpose of making a winning hand faster and easier than other players.


Draw dead- Draw to a hopeless hand. A hand that is very unlikely to beat others.


Drummer- A very tight player. A player who plays few hands.


Ducks- 2s.
