Family pot- A pot contended by three or more players. Such a situation takes place when there are a lot of fish at the table.

Fan- Shuffle the deck.

Fatten- To invest more money in the pot. Also called 'Sweeten'.

Final table- In tournament play, when there is only enough players in the game to form one last table. Reaching the final table typically means finishing in the money.

Fish- A player who loses on a regular basis. A very loose player.

Five-card stud- A version of poker, in which a player receives once card placed face down and four cards placed face up. The betting round begins on the second card. After the fourth betting round comes the showdown.

Fixed limit- Games played with predetermined betting limit. Meaning, the betting amount is fixed.

Floor man- A gaming facility employee in charge of settling player disputes, filling games and supervising all casino personnel, including the dealers.

Flop- In Hold 'em-like versions of poker, the first three 'Community Cards' dealt face up by the dealer.

Flush- Five cards of the same suit, but not of consecutive order.

Fold- To quit the game. No longer play.

Forced bet- A mandatory bet required in most poker versions meant to create an initial stake in the pot for the participating players to compete for.

Freeroll tournament- A tournament featuring no buy-in. Most online poker rooms run these tournaments as a promotional move designed to attract players.

Freeze out- 1. Bet in a certain way designed to keep opponents out of the pot. 2. The most popular sort of tournaments, featuring no rebuy possibility. The participants keep playing until one single player nabs all the chips.

Friend- A card expected to strengthen a player's hand.

Full bet- 1. In a limit poker game, a bet that equals the game's limit. 2. In no-limit and pot-limit games, a bet that equals the minimum for the hand.
