Hand- A player's best combination of five cards.


Hand mucker- A cheater who removes cards from the table in order to introduce them back to the game later.


Hart, Schaffner, and Marx- Three Jacks (J-J-J).


Heads Up- A situation in which there are only two players left in the pot.


High Card- A hand with no combination is judged based on its high card, meaning the highest ranking card (both in suit and in rank). For instance, in KJ1025 (unsuited) the high card is the King.


High Hand- In Hi-Lo split games, a hand that takes the high half of the pot.


Hit- To get a card one is wishing for.


Hole- In Stud or Hold 'em-style games, a concealed card. A card dealt face down. (Also known as 'the Pocket' or 'private' cards).


Hollywood- Showing off.


Honest reader- A deck featuring unintentional factory defects (sometimes a mark) which allow players to recognize cards, either by suit or by rank.


Honor Card- Any of the following: 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace (of any suit).


H.O.R.S.E- A tournament format with five versions of poker played in rotation. The games are: Limit Hold 'em, Omaha/8, Razz, 7-Card Stud Hi and 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo.


Hustler- An individual who makes his daily living by playing poker.
