WSOP 2008 Winner is Crowned

One can only imagine the intense emotions that Peter Eastgate felt while holding that Ace-Five which  led him to the wheel straight which would prove to make him the WSOP 2008 winner after beating out his opponent Ivan Demidov.

After beating out the other 8 players, the youngest player to win the title for this event the WSOP 2008 results will forever show Peter Eastgate was victorious. Eastgate was also the first Danish participant to earn the title. There is no doubt that after receiving the much cherished WSOP bracelet along with $9,152,416. in winnings, that Peter felt proud of himself and was joined by the poker world as a whole.

 

A Record is Broken at 2008 WSOP

The main event 2008 winner also shared the spotlight with Nikolay Evadakov who managed to pull in an amazing 10 in the money finishes. This was a record breaking event for Nikolay as the previous title holder for this was Chad Brown who held the record for 8 in the money finishes.

 

The WSOP 2008 results did not appear to have as yet sunk in with Peter Eastgate during his after win interview. No doubt though once the reality of becoming the WSOP 2008 winner was realized by Eastgate he was ecstatic. His enthusiasm for the game is most certainly shared by offline and online poker fans the world over.

Not only was there the prestige of being the WSOP 2008 winner there was the satisfaction of becoming the youngest to have achieved this feat. Peter is 22, and took this title away from Phil Hellmuth.

 

Finance or Poker?

It would seem that Poker has always been a passion for Peter. Although his original intention was to study finance, after learning to play Poker with his fellow classmates the game became his priority. It seems the WSOP 2008 winner made a wise choice that was probably far more lucrative then a career in finance would have been.

It was as a result of his qualification at the Ladbrokes Poker website, through a satellite tournament , that allowed Eastgate to get himself into the WSOP. Once he got to the final table of the tournament he was in 4th position for the number of starting chips he held.

When the final hand was to be played Eastgate was holding 120.4 million in chips against his opponent Demidov’s 16.5 million.

The game played out over a period of two days at the final table stage. After 274 hands and 15 hours, 28 minutes later Peter Eastgate walked away as the WSOP 2008 winner.
