1. Position matters. What many beginning poker players typically don't realize is the importance of position at the poker table. Since a poker hand value is a relative concept, position in relation to the button (the dealer) can sometimes either help you win and just as easily make you lose. Players can either sit in Early position (referring to the first two players to the Big Blind's left), Middle position (the following three players) or Late position (three players on the Button's right). Contrary to tight-aggressive players, loose-passive players normally play almost any hand regardless to its value and, once in the game, will generate little action. The likes of tight-passive and loose-aggressive are less frequent.

 

3. Evaluating the game. You should never enter a Texas Hold 'em game without evaluating it first. What you need to figure out first is whether or not you can afford the game. If the potential loss is going to damage your wallet beyond what you can take, drop the idea of joining that particular game. Another factor you must always consider is your opponents. If you are just a poker beginner it's extremely unwise (and that's to say the least) to enter a shark game. This might result in major monetary losses. Wouldn't it be a shame?

 

4. Exposing opponents' bluffs. Bluffing is an integral part of poker. In fact, poker wouldn't be so fun without the bluffing element. Actually, bluffing is so great because sometimes it can bring victory even to mediocre poker players. So, how do you expose a bluff? How do you figure out that your opponent is actually bluffing regarding his pocket cards? These are very tricky questions because we do not have a 100% working strategy to unveil someone's bluffing intentions. Try to use the following tips and hope for the best. If you suspect that one of your opponents is bluffing, try to read his behavior. It is important that you realize what his pocket might be. In case your gaming foe boasts the perfect poker face and is virtually unreadable, you can use mathematical calculations to achieve this goal. Try counting the outs. In any case, there is only one solid rule in poker: the more you play the more experience you gain. And it's no secret that experience most frequently equals winning!

 

4. Timely folding. Imagine a hot game of poker. You and another nine poker enthusiasts are contending for the coveted pot. Unfortunately, you are holding a marginal hand, while your opponents keep raising their bets. You are so caught up in the action that you don't realize that you are most obviously beaten. Now, let's go back to reality. You need to fold your hand and come back some other time. Sometimes, its better to quit than squander all your gambling funds on a hopeless hand. Accept the defeat graciously and try your luck the next day.
